To bring the world of The House to life, production designer Ashley Sizwe Morley and his production design team transformed the historic Marshalltown building, Victory House, bringing over 2000 books to set, with selected scenes shot at Collector’s Treasury, the largest collection of books in the Southern hemisphere.
The film reunites Mothusi Magano with Jonathan Kovel, who last worked together on the controversial, award-winning 2013 film, Of Good Report. Kovel, as cinematographer, brings the aged hallways and claustrophobic spaces of Ayanda’s Marshalltown workshop to life with breathtaking cinematography and a quiet proximity to Mothusi’s performance as the haunted writer.
